What’s so different between this and a Miko/Neko???

If this could run OSX or had OSX compatible drivers I’d truly consider it.

Other than that I’ll stick with my 6 core i7 Miko Tim running OSX and Windows 7 from an SSD.

    Retrofreak,
the main differences are cost, portability, weight, articulating screen, grid control surface, more knobs with actual feedback of pot position, two video ports, eSATA port, and less proprietary hardware inside. On my NeKo XXL the power supply for the I/O died within a few months (first time I turned on phantom power ..pop… dead); the USB bus would get overloaded (memory stick wouldn’t work in front port, plugging in a KORE controller in back put it into panic attack, etc.). Your machine cost twice as much as the StudioBLADE, and if you’ve made a Hackintosh build, that’s not something offered by either company. Certainly it would be easier to do that with the StudioBLADE, in theory, since the keyboard uses M-Audio drivers and not the proprietary ones from OL for the Fatar keyboard, and the Mac does not natively support the touch panel in your machine. If you can hack your i7 to run OSX, why couldn’t you do so with this? Hacking a machine to do something other than what it was designed and sold (and warranted) for, has nothing to do with the offerings of the company who made it. Just like you can drop a Corvette engine into a smaller GM car, that’s not what they built it for, and has nothing to do with the merits of the vehicle offered in original form. So, why do you think it doesn’t have Mac “drivers” if you can get the iKEYDock, which is essentially the same setup without the CPU, and is designed to work with a Macbook Pro, if you have the skills to hack one machine, this would probably be easier since the drivers already DO exist for Mac. You might want to visit the Music Computing site to look at their product line. Thanks for reading! -Chris

    Retrofreak,

There is one HUGE difference. The drivers for the controllers, etc for the MiKo is not Mac OS X compatible, so I bet they aren’t working correctly or at all in your Hackintosh MiKo.

Without the use of the faders, buttons and knobs, you might as well be using a computer with a LCD monitor and a $99 keyboard controller, because you are not getting the full benefit of the entire system as designed.

The drivers for the StudioBLADE are cross platform, including the controllers. Now that doesn’t mean we endorse you turning it into a Hackintosh, but on paper, the entire keyboard production station would work, controllers and all.

However, the best solution is for you to use our iKeyDOCK, which IS designed to be used with MacBook Pros, PowerMacs, etc. This way you can legitimately use Mac OS X on our products and have factory support as well as an upgrade path that is inline with both Apple and Music Computing road maps and policies.
